The awards ceremony for the Nawal Mostafa Awards for Businesswomen 2024 had the winners of 3 projects by women from the governorates of Damietta and Alexandria. Dr. Mona Wahid Mohamed Nawara from Damietta won first place for the project (Minimal) specializing in wooden handicrafts and furniture accessories, while the second prize was to Reham Youssef Ahmed from Alexandria for the project (Gufo) focusing on costume clothes and Amigurumi dolls, and the third prize was awarded to Yusra Ramadan Abdel Fattah from Alexandria for the project (Roknaya Design) for jewelry inspired by Egyptian heritage and culture.
The activities of the Award, under the slogan “Handicrafts with Egyptian hands,” started on the evening of Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Pyramisa Hotel in Dokki, with the presence of a selected elite of members of the Senate such as Dr. Haya Khattab, Dr. Abdel Moneim Imam, and Dr. Atef Maghawri. Also present were some writers and members of the National Council for Human Rights, along with some members of civil society organizations.
The Award is sponsored by Dr. Nevine El-Kabbaj, the Minister of Social Solidarity, and targets all women and girls over 18 years old who have talent in various types of handicrafts, with products that can be exported abroad. The aim is to encourage women with talents in various types of handicrafts to preserve Egyptian heritage from extinction and to maintain the Egyptian identity.
Initially, the writer Nawal Mustafa, the founder and CEO of the Association for Children of Female Prisoners, welcomed the attendees and then thanked the 240 women who applied for the competition, praising their distinguished products and strong determination to achieve their dreams despite the difficulties. She also thanked the five women who reached the shortlist from the governorates of Alexandria, Damietta, Cairo, and Giza, whose products varied between tent products, home furniture products, and natural leather products.
The Children of female prisoners’ care association (CFPA) was founded in 1990 after a large press campaign on the pages of the Egyptian newspaper “Al-Akhbar” (one of the largest Egyptian newspapers).
