It is worth noting that the “Phoenix” project was launched in partnership with the Association of Children of Female Prisoners and the Ashoka Foundation for the Arab World, in August 2022, to empower former prisoners and female debtors economically and socially, and contribute to providing a stable source of livelihood that contributes to creating decent livelihoods for them and improving their economic condition.
“Phoenix” aims to create a suitable environment for the economic empowerment of 50 women from ex-prisoners, to become entrepreneurs who are able to establish their own profitable projects. Psychological support will also be provided so that they can manage their lives.
The philosophy of the “Phoenix” project stems from long and extended research by the Association of Children of Female Prisoners on the conditions of this poor and marginalized group in Egyptian society, by giving poor women the hook, not the fish, through economic empowerment that leads to an increase in women’s income and thus improving the social status of the family. It helps women see their true value, improves their social positions, and contributes to establishing their community partnerships, even if they are imprisoned.
One of the most prominent activities of the project is the establishment of an outlet to sell products from small projects for women who have been trained and financed to start their own businesses and co-managed by the women themselves in partnership with the project team.
